A Message to Our Iranian Compatriots in the Diaspora

It is difficult to know where to begin. The current situation weighs heavily on all of us. Recent actions associated with Donald Trump and his allies, alongside Benjamin Netanyahu, have heightened tensions and contributed to violence affecting our fellow Iranians in Iran. These developments are deeply troubling—not only because of the human cost, but also because they place at risk irreplaceable cultural and historical treasures. Sites such as the Golestan Palace and the Safavid-era monuments of Isfahan to name a few,  are not merely national landmarks; they are part of a shared human heritage that transcends borders and politics.

None of us supports repression or authoritarian rule under the current Islamic Republic. At the same time, the future of Iran must be determined by its own people—through their will, their voices, and their aspirations—not shaped by external intervention or imposed change. History has shown, time and again, that foreign involvement in a nation’s internal affairs often brings unintended and disastrous consequences.

As the saying goes, history repeats itself—but only when its lessons are ignored. In this moment, as renewed discussions of regime change emerge, we are reminded of the painful legacy of the 1953 Iranian coup d'état. The democratically elected government of Dr. Mohammad Mosaddegh was overthrown in an event that left a profound and enduring mark on Iran’s political trajectory. The repercussions of that intervention helped shape the conditions that eventually gave rise to the Islamic Republic.

We in the diaspora carry a unique responsibility. We are witnesses, advocates, and custodians of Iran’s rich cultural and intellectual heritage. Our voices matter—but they must be guided by care, historical awareness, and a commitment to the well-being of the Iranian people above all else. Let us remain united in our concern for our compatriots, steadfast in our respect for Iran’s sovereignty, and mindful that meaningful, lasting change can only come from within.

In these difficult times, let us stand together—not in division, but in solidarity, reflection, and hope for a future shaped by the people of Iran themselves.

With warm regards,
